As the negative effects of
Covid-19 continue to traumatize individuals and families across Nigeria, the
Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator
Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, has again put smile on the faces of no fewer than
1,200 of his constituents. This is barely four weeks after about 1,000
beneficiaries also received financial supports from the Senator’s COVID-19
Financial Support, put in place to give succor to vulnerable residents of Lagos
East Senatorial District. The beneficiaries got the payments support on Friday 26,
February 2021.
It will be recalled that
the distinguished Senator, during the electioneering campaign in the election
that took him to the National Assembly, did promise to provide succour to the
poorest of the poor who have been adversely impacted by the pandemic.
According to Enitan
Olukotun, Special Adviser to Senator Tokunbo Abiru on Media and Publicity, the
gesture is in keeping to the promise earlier made by the Senator. In a
statement he made available to chasideho.com, he disclosed that on Monday, 8
February, 2021, Senator Abiru credited the bank accounts of 1,000 vulnerable residents,
amongst who are widows, physically challenged people, aged, women and
unemployed youths drawn from 98 wards across 16 local government areas in the
district.

The N5,000 (five thousand
naira) support scheme which is divided into two categories, is scheduled to run
throughout 2021.
Selected beneficiaries
will be getting the assistance bimonthly, and all through the year by way of
direct credit to the respective beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
“Like I assured during the
pilot disbursements to about 1,000 beneficiaries on Monday 8th February, 2021,
TACT (Tokunbo Abiru Constituency Team) will never abandon the vulnerable in our
district. "We shall continuously look out and champion policies and
legislative agenda that will be of benefit to the greatest number of our people,”
the Senator assured.
Senator Abiru who was
inaugurated on 15th, December, 2020 has been very active on the floor of the
Senate as well as his constituency.
In this month of February,
the Senator made informed contributions on the Cryptocurrency debate during the
plenary. Abiru, a former bank Managing Director and astute financial expert,
explained the global dynamics of the digital currency.
He is also active at home.
Only recently, members of Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB,
paid him a courtesy visit at his Constituency Office in Ikorodu to seek his
support and interventions for public schools in the district.
Less than 72 hours after
the visit, Senator Abiru moved a truck-load of 150,000 facemasks to the
Agency’s Headquarters in Maryland, Lagos for onward distribution to pupils and
teachers in the Lagos East Senatorial District.
