APC’S LEADERSHIP CRISIS DEEPENS AS THREE PERSONS LAY CLAIM TO OSHIOMHOLE’S SEAT

The leadership crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the National level has deepened following three national officers of the party laying claim to the position of the Acting national Chairman.
It will be recalled that Tuesday, 16 June, 2020, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja upheld the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole by an Abuja High Court as the National Chairman of the party.
Following this development, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party had named former Oyo state governor, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, to serve as its acting National Chairman.
In a late statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the party said it has received the news indicating the Appeal Court has upheld the suspension of the Party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by an FCT High Court pending the determination of the substantive suit.
“Guided by advice from the Party’s legal department in line with the provisions of Section 14.2. (iii) of the Party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Sen. Abiola Ajimobi will serve as the Party’s Acting National Chairman.
“According to Section 14.2. (iii),of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South “Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone”, the NWC stated.
However, in a twist, Victor Gaidom, APC’s incumbent Deputy National Secretary declared himself as the Acting National Chairman of the party. He said he took over the leadership of the party based on a previous court order empowering him to do so.
According to him, he has the backing of the members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Just as APC was battling to stave off the consequences that might cause, another national officer of the party, Prince Hilliard Eta, APC’s Vice Chairman, South South, came out Wednesday to also lay claim to the leadership of the party. He said he took over as the ruling party’s Acting National Chairman.
Afterwards, he went ahead to appoint Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma as the Edo Primary Election Chairman.
The Eta-led National Working Committee also declared as vacant the office of the Deputy National Secretary of the party, who we reported earlier today declared himself the Acting Chairman of the party.
