JUST IN: FIRE GUTS CBN OFFICE
A fire incident has
occurred at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s office in Jos, Plateau State.
According the News Agency
of Nigeria, NAN, the incident occurred on Tuesday and the fire was said to have
gutted part of the building.
Confirming the report, the
apex bank tweeted, “Minor fire outbreak at the Jos branch of Central Bank of
Nigeria, promptly contained today, April 21, 2020.”
It will be recalled that
recently, the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Abuja was
also gutted by fire. This came days after the office of the Accountant-General
of the Federation, also called the Treasury House went up in flames.
In a similar development,
on Friday 17 April, 2020, a section of the Independent National Electoral, Commission
(INEC) headquarters in Abuja was gutted by fire as well.
The commission spokesman
Festus Okoye confirmed this to reporters, stating that the fire affected INEC’s
Department of Electoral and Party Monitoring office.
Recall also that in early
days of February 2020, the office of the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra was
on also gutted by fire.
Confirming the incident to
journalists, SP Haruna Mohammed, Police Public Relations Officer in the state
command, said “the fire allegedly emanated from the bush burning.
